Frequently Asked Questions

Bra fitting

We fill our bra vault with every size available worldwide, not just the 20-30 that most retailers carry. From petite 28" bands up to 56" plus-size bands and cup sizes from A to KK, we have over 180 different options in hundreds of styles to fit your unique body. Since 2005, we’ve been helping women gain the confidence and comfort they deserve, whether underneath their clothes, in the bedroom, or at the beach. You’ll leave not only looking good, but feeling good too!

Did you know 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra? Our Bra Fit Specialists go through an extensive training process so we not only pull you the correct size but also ensure that you are in the best styles for your unique physique. Just because one style of bra works wonders for your best friend does not mean it will necessarily be the best style for you.

Your fitter will begin by taking three measurements over your current bra. We suggest you wear your current best fitting option when you come in so we can take the most accurate measurement. She will then choose a bra from the vault based on these measurements to ensure we have the correct fit. If it isn’t exactly right on the first try, don’t worry, the measurements are more of a starting point to guide us in the proper direction. It may take trying two or three sizes to land on your perfect, most comfortable fit.

Your comfort is important to us – both in your fitting experience and in our products. We offer as much privacy as you need, paired with the finest service, expertise and styles available on the market. We promise you an uplifting experience in an empathetic, judgement free zone where you feel empowered and beautiful, because, well, you are!

We recommend being refit every 6-12 months. While some of us have the magical ability to maintain the same size for years and years, most of us find that our size will fluctuate, some more often than others. Even if the bra you have been wearing still seems to fit, remember that it is likely not the same size it was when you purchased it as our bras will stretch with time. It is never a bad idea to get a fresh measurement before making a purchase to ensure that we are providing you with the best options for you! Our fittings are always complimentary.

Most of the women we fit come in wearing a band size that is too large and a cup size that is too small. Here are some key indicators that you may be wearing the wrong size.

1- The band of your bra is riding up your back. This is an indication that your band is too big. If this is happening to you then you are not receiving the proper support from your bra and your shoulders are working to pick up the slack.

2- Your breasts are spilling out of the front of the cup creating the “double-bubble” of breast tissue and/or you are constantly re-adjusting your breasts throughout the day due to them escaping the cups. This is an indication that your cup is too small. The cup of your bra should fully encase your breast tissue. If the cup is too small not only will you see spillage in the front, but you also are likely feeling your underwire stabbing into the side of your breast, which is generally very uncomfortable.

3- When you lift your arms up over your head your bra is pulling away from your body or your breasts are falling out of the bottom of your cups. This is another indication that your band is too big. In order to provide the proper support, the band of your bra should fit comfortably flush against your body and should stay put during the course of your day.

Breasts can increase dramatically, especially during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy. We can help you find styles that will get you through your pregnancy in style and comfort, and be worn again post-pregnancy. Be sure to refit as your body changes so that poor fitting bras don’t cause discomfort, lack of support, and potential damage to your breasts and milk ducts.  The best time to shop for actual nursing bras is in your eighth month, and Bra Genie carries a great assortment of wire and non-wire nursing bra and tank styles.

It’s our honor to share the importance of taking care of our breasts with your loved one!  Book an appointment and help us decide which personality type fitter she would be more comfortable with. Empathy is a necessary trait for our entire team, so even our walk-in customers can be confident of a great First bra fitting.  Leave it to us to educate her on the basics like how a bra should fit, how to keep them clean, how to know if she’s outgrown a bra, how a strapless should fit, and how to support her breasts during high impact activities.

Absolutely!  Our assortment includes pocket bras and forms, as well as post-surgical no wire bras that are actually pretty!  Note:  Bra Genie does not file for insurance reimbursement.

Bra Genie carries styles manufactured in both US and UK sizes.  Most of the time, UK sized brands offer more cup size choices than US sized brands.  Enlisting the help of a fit expert who understands how both US and UK sized bras fit will give you the best result. Hard to fit size?  No problem, we carry just about every size made.  Shop at any of our stores or call us for further assistance!   See US/UK size chart, linked here.

Many women wash their bras in the machine on cool delicate, in a zipper bag, with a gentle detergent designed for bras. This gets your bras clean but can reduce their life expectancy.  Bra Genie recommends an easy, rinse-free soak in one of our hand-washing products like Soak or Lingerie Mate.  This extends the life of the fabric and fit of your fine lingerie. NEVER, under any circumstances, put your bras in the dryer.  Heat deteriorates the fibers of delicate lingerie and is sure to stretch, warp and destroy your bras.  Remember, if you take care of your bras and swim, they will take care of you!  If you’re scrambling to keep your bras clean, you may need to add more bras to your rotation.
